​On 13 April Saturday evening, a moving escalator collapsed in Tampines 1 Shopping Mall. ​Lucky no one was hurt in the incident.
Then today, Tampines 1 GM mentioned that stroller wheels are likely the culprit of this incident.
That really open a can of worms.
Many commentors put the blame on able person's that is hogging the lift.
So from a trend of hogging roads, hogging priority seats, now we have the trend of people hogging the lift.
​First world problem in Singapore maybe?
So what is wrong with people using lift?
Nothing wrong, but it will be more gracious that people using the lift can give way to people who needs the lift more than them. ​
Like wheelchair users, strollers.
​Look around you when you take the lift in shopping malls. How many people actually "give way" or step out if they see wheelchair or strollers coming in.

Then now stroller comes under the spotlight. Because the lift is always packed. So stroller users have no choice but to use escalator.
​We also use stroller often. And we also research to buy a stroller that can use 1 hand close and open easily.
That being said, ​it is definitely more convenient to use the escalator. But the risk is also there.
Imagine you not stable, you hand gun. Stroller drop, baby fall out.
For the 5 - 10 mins of convenience, you regret whole life.
Then how?
We need a change lor.
These groups of people - Wheelchairs, Handicaps and stroller users should not even be on the escalators.Â
And more importantly, they should not be the priority. They should be the exclusive users of the elevators!
​1. Education on being more gracious lor.
Like you give up your seats in MRT. Now you gotta learn to give up your space in the lift.
A simple gesture will actually make someone's day. Then, the escalator companies will not blame the stroller liao.
2. Buy a 1 Hand Closing Stroller
So far, we used this stroller. It is very convenient to fold and unfold the stroller using 1 hand and when you are carrying the baby also.
And whenever you are carrying the baby up and down the escalator, stand more to the inner part even though you are blocking the "express lane".
3. Use a Carrier lor
If you are very fit one, can carry your baby walk around the entire shopping mall. Then use carrier lor.
Popular brands like Egobaby or Tula.
4. Go Airport
We often go airport to hang and have our meal etc. Because airport is very baby friendly.
Ample parking space, lift so many. So big.
Big nursing room. Aircon full blast.
With Jewel opening, you can hang out at Airport as often as you want. Previously at the Terminals, the lift so spacious that you will not wait for very long for them.
So for parents with strollers, go airport or Jewel when they official open. (Go few months later when the hype die down lah)
