Reason why we bought a Thermomix

By Money Saving Daddy

We have been thinking about buying a thermomix for a long time. It was like a year ago, when we got to know of thermomix.

Our friend was the advisor at that time.

At that time, we only had 1 kid and a helper that cooks well.

So, I was thinking if you have a helper that cooks well, you don’t need a thermomix.

She is the thermomix

+ help around the house
+ settling your house chores person.
+ help your babysit your kid

Ps: If you don’t know what is a Thermomix, click here to find out more.

Background Of My Cooking

I learnt cooking when we relocated to France for 2 years. Back then, confirm we knowthat we will miss Chinese food.

So, I just read up recipes, and trial and error. So I have a bit of cooking knowledge and experience than some of you.

Chicken Rice, Fried Rice, Fried Bee Hoon, White Beehoon, curry chicken, brasied pork...

And so, if I know how to cook, I also don’t need a Thermomx what.. Right?

Fast Forward

Similar like most of everyone else, the cost is the concern. $2,400. Me as a Money Saving Daddy how to swallow this price tag.

We find all sorts of reasons not to buy it. Then it hit us when we have to let go our helper due to some misconduct reasons.

From then on, we everyday order foodpanda. Because cooking is tiring.

Cook liao, splatter on the wall and place oily, tio kan by wife. Because no helper to help clean up.

Wife niam you as she clean up also.

“Why you cook until whole place so oily one? Why you never clean up properly after cooking?”

I think many husband also tio left right centre already.

But hor, I cook leh.

Isn’t it, I cook, then the other half clean up? (Whisper mode)

The Lead Up

Then we got a helper eventually. Things were fine for a few days as we hired her because she said she knew how to cook.

I told her, daily menu 1 soup, 1 veg, 1 meat.

Or  1veg, 1 egg, 1 meat

Simple right?

First 2 days, we got soup and veg. No meat.

Then I was thinking, okay maybe instructions are not clear. So we went grocery shopping, I told her. 1 soup, 1 veg, 1 meat.

Then for 2 days, we got 2 veg, 1 soup, or 1 veg, 1 egg and no meat.

Then when I probe further, how come no meat one ah? You vegetarian ah?

Then she confesses, she don’t know how to cook meat.

Wah piang eh.. Say earlier lah.

So for some days in a week, I taught her how to cook some meat, steam some fishes.

She was learning well, but I also a bit lazy also.

Because some times got some hit and misses.

And I also realise her soup taste good because she put chicken stock cubes.

Haiya…

Thermomix idea pop up again.

Making Chicken Stock

Remember my helper used the supermarket chicken stock cubes? I wanted more healthy choice.

So I googled how to make chicken stock. Went market buy the ingredients, brew the soup for 5-7 hours.

  • 1 x Chicken Carcass
  • $2 worth of chicken feet
  • 2 Carrots
  • 2 Onion
  • 1 Garlic

This can yield like 1 liter of chicken stock and we portion into 250ml containers to cook soup for loti.

Thermomix idea pop up again.

So I googled, can thermomix make chicken stock?

In fact, they can make chicken stock paste. Which is more concentrated and takes up less space, you can decide how much salt you want to put!

Called My Advisor for Another Demo

So we called our advisor, then come over for a demo please.

But this time, can we choose our menu. Let me know what ingredients to buy, we pay for it.

Usually demos ingredients are covered by the advisor, but they will bring the template menu. So for us, we wanted to customise the menu so we offer to cover the cost of ingredients.

If not, you request for fish prawn crab and free demo meh? Not paiseh ah?

Our Menu

  • 3 Cup Chicken
  • Steam Fish
  • Honey Dew Sago
  • Lady's Finger

Verdict

The taste was almost similar to what I can cook. Almost lah, but machine cook one where got Wok Hey right?

Give and take abit lah.

But taste is there.

Can make dessert, and it is her first time preparing this dishes.

Not to say I tekan her lah, but try mah. If 1st time do this recipes, can taste good. I think it will be consistent for all their recipes.

Pulled the Trigger

So we thought about it for a day and text her.

Okay, we want to buy the thermomix, but I want to join them as a Thermomix Advisor.

Because I find this product solves most of my pain point given that I’m always looking to save money.

The value exceeds the cost of the machine.

Given this are 2 the top factors why I pulled the trigger.

There are many other factors like, easy clean up, making more meals for the family and new cooking techniques.

But these 2 are our top reasons why we bought a thermomix.

  • No Splatter
  • No Need Watch Fire

If you are sitting on the fence, and trying to justify the price. Why not contact your advisor for a demonstration.

If you have no advisor, then you can contact me lah.

And by the way,

Cookidon.com sponsor this post one because it is limbei another cooking recipe site also.

We don’t want to jam up this site with all the recipes, so I decided to create another cooking community for all your cooking ideas especially for busy parents.

Will update again on my cooking experience with thermomix.
