After we reached France, the first thing we do is call up every of the gynecologist clinic in our Town (Sens, France).
We have negative experience of getting medical appointments in France because, the previous time we tried to arrange for an ophthalmologist to check our eyesight. The earliest appointment was like 2 months later.
So we started calling down the list of gynecologist in Sens, France.
The 1st call somehow landed at a clinic 200km away from our town.
And we were lucky on the 2nd call, we managed to get a gynecologist 5mins away from our residence. Then to play kiasu abit, we made another appointment with the public hospital which turns out to be the same doctor.
Hurray!!
Our First Visit to Gynecologist in France
The gynecologist in France seem quite different from what we have in Singapore.
1 Man Show - No Clinic AssistantÂ
In Singapore, you have at least a clinic assistant that answers calls, attend to walk-in patients, distribute out the medications etc.
In France, the assistant the Doctor has is a receptionist that answer calls. But you will not get to see her anywhere in the clinic.
No Gynecologist AssistantÂ
In Singapore, there is always an assistant with the doctor in the clinic,to assist in replace the paper cover, arranging of the stuffs, topping up the lubricant and many others.
In France, the gynecologist does all these himself.
Super Big Room
​In Singapore, usually you have the consultation tables, 2 chairs and gynecologist examination bed for doing checks and scans.
And usually these are divided by the curtain.
In France, it is just a big room with no curtains no shades to block. And usually you got to walk across the room half naked to the bed.
The Consultation billÂ
In Singapore, a general consultation will cost $100-$120. Ultrasound Scans are additional $80-$100. So a consultation will range from $180-$220.
In France, it ranges from €30 - €60 (consultation and scan) . And we don't even know what are the difference. And best of all, it is claimable.Â
PharmacyÂ
In Singapore, most clinics or rather all clinics have their in house pharmacies. You can just get your medication within the same premises.
In France, you have to get your medication from the pharmacies. But one thing good, pharmacies are everywhere in France.
It is like Unity, guardian, Watson in Singapore.
Blood Test
This is the thing that is similar. It is always outsource.
In Singapore, they can engaged a roaming blood collector to collect your blood and send for lab testing.
In France, you have to go to the lab testing center to get things  done.
Overall, the cost in France cheaper
Because you only pay for the doctor time and not the assistant. But in Singapore, your fees are higher as these are additional service fees. And of course, rental is high in Singapore.Â
Ps: And this is just the reflection of the healthcare cost in regions away from the capital - Paris. Maybe Paris is more expensive. But then again, all these can be claim from the government. That is why the French are paying more taxes for.
The Service Standard
No doubt it is a one man show, but we had very positive experience on the services and patience of the Doctor.Â
And the doctor does not converse fluent in English nor we can converse well in French. But he is patient enough to attend to us and explain to us on any clarifications we have.
