Birthday must have cake right? Somemore is Baby Loti's first Birthday cake leh.
So must order some cake to cater to 60 - 70 people mah.
With so many choices of home bakers, we narrowed our decision to Slices.
Joanne was very patient to answer our numerous question.
And of course, she also asked what is our requirement.
Fondant or buttercream cake?
Fondant Birthday Cake
Being new to this kind of trendy cakes, of course I duno what is fondant or buttercream.
So, Joanne give us some examples of what is fondant and what is buttercream.
She said.
Fondant is a layer of sugar paste. it is not that nice tasting, and more expensive because after your chocolate ganache or buttercream. You need to wrap your cake with fondant. But fondant cakes are pretty as it gives a very neat look. Some cake designs can only be made with fondant
Got what flavours ah?
So I also didn't know Buttercream cakes can choose flavour one. I thought all creamy taste with some chocolate etc.
In fact, she has a list of flavours to choose from.
- Vanilla
- Chocolate
- Strawberry
- Chocolate banana
- Nutella
- Cookies n Cream
- Cream
- Ondeh ondeh
- Lychee
So I thought just need to make one decision on 1 flavour.
Who knows because we ordering a 2 tier cake. We can have 2 different flavour.
So we chose, Lychee and Chocolate Banana.
I'm not a chocolate fan but Mummy is. So can choose 2 flavours make everyone jin happy one.
What size the cake ah?
This one also headache la. Too big scare cannot finish, too small scare not enough.
So how?
Joanne advised:
"6" top (around 1kg), 8" bottom (1.5kg). cake will be good for 30+ pax"
So if got 40+ pax leh?
Cut smaller lah! Sibei idea leh. Because often birthday cakes also got leftover.
Cos many people don't like to jiak cake.
But if the cake is nice, everyone sup finish.

Color of the Cake
This one also challenging. But we leave it to her to decide for us a mermaid theme cake with the colors.
Birthday Cake Toy Topper
Instead of asking her to design a mermaid, we want to go with using a Toy as a topper.
Because if self design one, later the design come out not same as the toy how?
Anyways, we also have alot of mermaid toys. So, if we provide 1 we can save $10.
Why not right? Since the toy she will buy and we will have 2 of the same one.
Delivery
One good thing is, the cake is personally delivered instead of engaging some third party vendors.
Because I feel in this way, they will be more careful with the delivery.
I was told this is a 2 tier cake, so the transportation process is very delicate one. Cannot put on the vehicle floor one. Must hand carry in the car.

Overall Review
Sibei good.
The cake came with some macaron also. And the guests hoot finish all the cake.
The taste of the cake is just nice for a dessert. Not too sweet, and not to gelat.
